Regular visitors to my site will know that I change the main page image every month.  As it's June now I thought I'd go back to my summer solstice (well, almost) image of Glastonbury Tor...

I took this image a few years ago now.  It was a couple of days before the solstice as there was a clear weather forecast that day, but it was raining on the solstice itself.  However, I was pleased with the sun's position just at the base of the tower.

I actually arrived far too early for this image, not knowing how long after sunrise the sun would appear over the Tor.  So, I had stumbled up the hill in complete darkness and watched the sky change colour around the Tor as the sun came up.  It didn't reach this point until around six, so I had quite a wait.  On the way back down the hill, I noticed a chap sleeping in a bivvy bag near the path - an early arrival for the solstice celebration it would seem - I must have walked right past him in the dark, so he's lucky I didn't stand on him!
